Description

Once this native was a prominent part of the Great Plains grasses. Narrow, upright clump of blue-green blades with red tips appearing in midsummer. Blade color continues to intensify to rich burgundy and red with orange and yellow; one of the most beautiful fall color grass displays. Airy heads of tiny red flowers appear in August; age to silver-brown and persist well into winter. Tolerates moist, wet soil situations as well as drought (once established) and a wide range of soils and climatic conditions.
